CPO’s Juvenile Facilities Roundtable Hosts Presentation on the ‘Smaller is Better’ Treatment Model for Youth in Commitment

The American Civil Liberties Union of Colorado presented research about how the implementation of smaller, community-based and homelike treatment facilities are impacting committed youth.

Every quarter, the CPO hosts the Roundtable on Juvenile Facilities (Roundtable). These public meetings provide youth advocates a space to learn and share information about topics that are impacting youth in Colorado’s juvenile detention or commitment facilities.

During the August 2021 Roundtable, representatives from the American Civil Liberties Union of Colorado presented research about how certain commitment and/or detention facilities across the nation are implementing a new model of treatment and supervision to help improve outcomes for the youth they serve. The presentation provided an overview of the model, including how services are provided to youth in smaller, homelike and community-based setting, and detailed the resources and partnerships that are needed to sustain it.

Meetings are from 12:00 to 1:30 p.m. and are hosted virtually.
