The Office of the Colorado Child Protection Ombudsman is currently experiencing an influx of cases which has increased the length of time required to review each case. The agency remains committed to providing quality and thorough services to each of its clients, and we sincerely appreciate your patience as we work to return the case review times to normal.

Operational Reports

Like many Colorado agencies, the CPO is statutorily required to complete multiple operational reports. Specifically, the CPO must prepare and publish three categories of reports.

First, the CPO is required to complete performance reports outlined in the State Measurement for Accountable, Responsive and Transparent Government Act (SMART Act). Pursuant to C.R.S. 2-7-204(1), the CPO must produce and publish five SMART Act reports per fiscal year. Second, pursuant to C.R.S. 19-3.3-108(1), the CPO must publish, no later than September 1 of each year, an annual report detailing the work of the agency during the previous fiscal year. Finally, the CPO is also required to post the budget requests the agency submitted to the Joint Budget Committee each year. Each category of reports is provided below.

Please note, the CPO did not become subject to the SMART Act until Fiscal Year 2016-17. Additionally, prior to becoming an independent agency in 2016, the CPO did not submit agency-specific budget requests.
